Terms of Service
Last updated October 20, 2026
These terms are written plainly so you know exactly what you are agreeing to, what we promise, and what we ask of you. formaddie is a subscription service operated by Obsidian Delta Corp.
Talking to Maddie.
You interact with Maddie by typing, by recording a voice memo, or by using live conversation in the web app. When you use voice, your speech is processed in real time so Maddie can understand you and respond. By using voice you consent to this real-time voice processing.
Maddie is not a person, and not an emergency service
Maddie is a computer program, not a person. She is not a doctor, nurse, lawyer, financial adviser, counsellor, or crisis worker, and nothing she says is medical, legal, financial, or professional advice. Please do not rely on her for any of those things.
Maddie cannot summon help, contact anyone on your behalf, or act in the world. If this is an emergency, call 911. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988. If you are outside the United States or Canada, contact your local emergency number. Maddie will always point you to this help if you raise something urgent, and this never counts against any usage limit.
How your words are processed
Maddie is built on third-party artificial-intelligence infrastructure. To turn your speech into text, produce her replies, and speak them back to you, the contents of your conversation are processed by the providers we work with, under contract with us, for that purpose only. We do not sell your conversations and we do not hand them to anyone for their own purposes. The providers we use, and what each one receives, are listed on our Privacy page.
What happens to your words
Voice input is converted to text during your session. The notes, transcripts and chapter drafts that Maddie creates from your conversations are kept so that Maddie can remember what you have told her and keep building your book, and they are exported to you on request. If you tell Maddie something is off the record, she keeps it out of your chapters and your book; our Privacy page explains exactly what that does and does not do today.
Trying formaddie for free.
You can start for free, and we never ask for a card to try Maddie.
Talking as a guest
You can talk with Maddie as a guest, with no email needed and no password. A guest conversation is live talk only and lasts up to 10 minutes; voice memos, chapters and your bookshelf need an email. We keep a guest conversation for about a week so that you can save it: add your email, and it becomes part of your story with Maddie. If you do not add your email, the conversation is deleted.
A 7-day free trial when you sign up
When you create an account you can start a 7-day free trial with full access. We do not ask for a card to start the trial. When the trial ends and you have not added a card, live talk with Maddie pauses, but your account and all of your stories and chapters are kept. Add a card whenever you are ready and live talk resumes right away.
Pricing and payment.
formaddie costs $9.99 USD per month. Your subscription renews automatically each month, and your card is charged $9.99 USD at the start of each monthly period until you cancel. By adding a card and subscribing, you authorise this recurring monthly charge.
Prices are in US dollars. Where the law requires us to collect sales tax, GST/HST or VAT, it is added at checkout and shown before you pay.
Price changes
If we change the price, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, so you have time to decide whether to continue or cancel.
Cancelling
You can cancel anytime, in one step. Open Account in the app to manage your subscription. It takes you to the customer portal run by our payment processor, Stripe, where you can cancel your subscription yourself: no phone call, no email, no waiting. When you cancel, your access continues until the end of the month you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. Your account, stories and chapters are kept after you cancel (see “Your stories belong to you” below).
Refunds
Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable, including for partial months. If you cancel partway through a month, you keep access until the end of that paid month, but we do not refund the unused part. Some places give you refund or cancellation rights that cannot be waived; where that is the case, those rights apply and this paragraph does not take them away.
Payment processing
Payments are handled by Stripe, Inc. We do not see or store your full card number. Subscribing also means agreeing to Stripe’s Terms of Service.
What a subscription includes.
A subscription includes:
- Talking with Maddie. Live conversation with Maddie in the web app, and typed messages.
- Voice memos. Record a message for Maddie on formaddie.com and she replies aloud.
- Your chapters and your book. When you ask Maddie for your chapter or your book, it is kept on your bookshelf on formaddie.com, where you can open it and download it. We email it to you only when you ask us to.
Family editions and family sharing are not part of the subscription yet.
Fair-use limit on live talk
Live conversation uses a lot of computing power, so there is a monthly fair-use limit on live talk minutes. This limit is generous for ordinary personal use, and we may change it over time; if we do, we will say so.
Everything you tell Maddie is kept, as described below and on our Privacy page.
Your stories belong to you.
Everything you share with Maddie is yours. The memoir chapters, transcripts, and files generated from your conversations are your content. You may download, share, or delete them at any time.
By using the service, you grant formaddie a limited license to process and store your content solely to provide the service to you. We do not claim ownership of your stories. We do not publish them, license them, or share them with any third party without your explicit instruction.
Keeping your stories after you cancel
If you cancel your subscription, we keep your stories and chapters so they are waiting for you if you come back. Live talk pauses, but nothing you have made is thrown away because you stopped paying.
Exporting and deleting your data
You can request a full export of your transcripts and memoir files, or deletion of your account and all associated data, at any time by writing to support@formaddie.com. We will confirm when it is done.
Acceptable use.
formaddie is designed for personal life-story conversations. You agree not to use the service to:
- Share conversations involving third parties without their knowledge and consent.
- Generate content that is false, defamatory, or intended to harm others.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, abuse, or overload the service infrastructure.
- Create multiple accounts to get around free trials or usage limits.
We may suspend accounts that violate these rules, with or without prior notice depending on severity.
Minimum age.
formaddie is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and subscribe.
Limitations and disclaimers.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, formaddie is provided “as is” and without warranty. We make reasonable efforts to keep the service available and your data safe, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every feature will work exactly as described.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, formaddie’s liability for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the three months preceding the claim.
We are not responsible for the content of any memoir or chapter draft. The service assists with capturing and organizing your memories; the accuracy of what you tell Maddie is your responsibility.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited by agreement.
Changes to these terms.
We may update these terms as the service changes. We will email you before material changes take effect, so you can decide whether to continue.
Questions and governing law.
For questions about these terms, billing, or the service: support@formaddie.com
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, unless applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
